This site will begin as a place to post new developments for the Classic 8-bit Commodore 64 computer. There’s a new wave of games being developed and we’re reaching a tipping point, where there are new offerings every month. We’re keeping an eye on outlets such as itch.io, Indie Retro News, Retro Gamer Nation, Lemon64, Retrobits, Atari Age Forums and many other respected sources.
Goals:
- Curation of modern commodore games. Simple posts about new games for Commodore computers with a description. An occasional Amiga, PET, Plus/4, VIC20, and C128 post will show up here as well. Primary focus is new, original games but there are some amazing, significant remakes/ports that deserve attention.
- Development resource curation. There are quite a few options, a combination of old and new resources for making retro Commodore dev more accessible.
- Revel in the abilities of modern developers to make amazing, modern games work on this old 8-bit, resource-limited machine.
- Eventually, a place to discuss new games.
- Eventually, a place to find the latest in development resources and emulation.
- To see where this takes us for now.
What this site is NOT:
- ROM hosting or links to ROMS.
- A Review site.
- Commodore hardware. Its up to you how you want to play games.
What I use to play and program Commodore games:
- 64 Forever – The best emulation interface and easy to use – based on VICE, I believe. I use this on my Windows 11 machine more than any of the other methods listed here.
- TheC64 Mini (on my family room TV)
- TheC64 – often referred to as the “Maxi”. I use this for programming, text adventures, etc.
- VICE – Emulation (on Windows / MacOS / Linux) that’s been around for a long, long while. I use this when messing around with emulation on something like a Raspberry Pi Or when my wife wants to play an old game from her childhood on her Mac.
